The goal of FMCH Occupational Health Medicine is to build a strong working relationship with businesses
and industries to ensure the safety and good health of their employees. FMCH offers a variety of
occupational health services and is willing to work with each industry or business to customize a program
that meets their individual needs.
What services does the Occupational Health Department offer?
Occupational Tests
- Pre-employment Physicals
- Executive Physicals
- Special Purpose Physicals (ex. Firefighting, law enforcement, DOT)
- DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing
- Review OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaires
- Injury Care (Workers compensation)
- Follow up care & assessment of return to work options
- Case Management (With timely referrals to Orthopedic Surgeons and Neurologists)
Cardiac Testing (Heart)
- Stress Testing (Treadmill or Pharmacological)
- E.K.G.s (Electrocardiogram) - Measures the heart rhythm
Pulmonary Testing (Lung)
If your employees work with any type of organic fumes, such as paint fumes and asbestos, these tests should be done periodically.
- Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT)
- Respirator Fit Tests
Clinical Laboratory Testing
- Diagnostic Tests (Blood Screenings)
Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy
The following classes can be given on-site or at FMCH.
- Job-Site Analysis -Look at jobs and how working conditions affect the body; including On-site ergonomics and computer workstation evaluation
- Back injury prevention training including back care and exercises
- Proper Lifting
- Extensive clinical knowledge in the treatment of neck and back pain, including McKenzie techniques.
- Repetitive Lifting/Action Injury Prevention
- Exercises that can be done at work
- Body Mechanics
Classes
Certification Courses: The following classes can be given on-site or at FMCH.
- American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED: Class time 4-8 hours
- Bloodborne Pathogens: Class time approximately 1 hour
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Class time approximately 2 hours
- Supervisor Training (State Code 730.5 Non-Regulated Employees, Federal Regulation 382.307 DOT Regulated Employees).
Health Screening Tests Available
The following tests may be performed on individuals at FMCH, or we can screen employees as a group on-site.
- Lipid Profile: A blood test that measures cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL Cholesterol
- Fasting Glucose: A blood test that measures blood sugar levels (for diabetes)
- Fecal Occult Blood: A take home test used to test stool to detect colon cancer
- Pulmonary Function: A test for airway disorders
- Body Fat Analysis: A test to determine the percent of body’s fat
- Urine Drug Screening
- Other screenings available upon request
Immunizations Available
The following vaccines may be given on-site for a group, or each can be administered individually at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
